My daughter, Alexandra struggled a lot before the application and even after the acceptance: she migrated to Canada since 3 years old from Hong Kong and doesn’t really know how to read Chinese, Mandarin is not her mother tongue, never having overseas trip on her own, very picky with food, doesn’t know anyone there, her shyness and ineloquent … many fears that hold her back for this adventure though she decided to go. Seeing her sobbing when going through the airport security, I trust that this is a good opportunity for her to come out of her comfort zone and she will never regret about it.

This is a wonderful program for both the Taiwan students and volunteers. Alexandra started build up team relationship in very short time (she told me she missed me only when leaving and on the plane). She enjoys the time together with her group members (other volunteers) and working together to make the teaching better and better each day. Though it’s hard to see how the students can improve in only two weeks, these big brothers and sisters sure will have some impact on the students’ life just as they impacted Alexandra. I never think that the two weeks teaching will have such a bonding between the volunteers and the students. She missed the group members and the students so much when leaving. She loves Taiwan and is planning to go back and visit her students’ graduation if possible.
I am glad that she decided to take the challenge. This is an eye opening experience for her to see different cultures and to help the underprivileged. It is also a great preparation for her to be more independent and responsible for the away home university life from Vancouver to Toronto this September. I believe she takes more than she gives.
I encourage any youth to take this challenge and see the change in yourself and others 
Thanks for the Overseas Community Affairs Council, Ministry of Education, all the staff and helpers for the program. This is not an easy task to arrange a 400+ training and events.

Bravo.

I think the camp is awesome. Everything seems very good. I was worry they might feel bored after some days. But, they were very happy.

Since they needed to stay in camp in weekends, this make them safer. I don’t need to worry they might get loss or any accidents if they go outside.

My son loves it. He even says if he could go next time, he would like to do it. He enjoyed teaching kids and also made some friends there. He is very happy to have this experience.

In general, I think the camp is successful. I do appreciate all your efforts.

Best regards,

Patrick Weng
